Nara

​Nara is rich in ancient shrines and temples, reflecting its position as the capital of Japan from 710 to 794. Many of these sites are the oldest in Japan. Highlights include Todai-ji Temple, which houses a 15 metre-tall Buddha. There are also plenty of scenic spots, such as Nara park, with its hundreds of tame, freely wandering deer, and Mount Yoshino, which is especially nice during the spring cherry blossom season.
